Southern Skin and Wellness is located directly in the heart of the New Orleans CBD.
Our dual-wavelength laser precisely combines Nd:Yag (1064-nm) and Alexandrite (755-nm) laser wavelengths in ratios specific for each patient. The dual-wavelength system is designed to target hair reduction across a wide range of skin tones and hair colors, which can be challenging to treat with traditional laser systems.
Nd:Yag laser emits light at a wavelength of 1064 nanometers, which penetrates deep into the skin and is less absorbed by melanin. This wavelength of light is safe for patients with darker skin tones as it reduces the risk of damaging the skin’s surface while effectively targeting the hair follicles.
Alexandrite lasers emit light at a wavelength of 755 nanometers, which is highly absorbed by melanin, the pigment responsible for hair and skin color. This wavelength of light is effective for targeting melanin in the hair follicles, making it well-suited for individuals with fair to medium skin tones and dark hair.
We custom-tailor your laser hair reduction treatment specific to your skin tone and hair color. Our state-of-the-art dual-wavelength laser device targets hair follicles in an active growth phase (Anagen). The laser energy eliminates unwanted hair by heating the hair follicles and rendering them incapable of growing new hair. By selectively damaging the hair follicles, we can significantly decrease and often permanently eliminate hair growth in the treatment area.
Southern Skin & Wellness customizes each hair reduction treatment plan to each patient based on the individual’s skin tone, hair color, and treatment area. Our team has the ability to adjust the laser settings based on each patient’s individualized treatment plan to optimize results while minimizing the risks of side effects.
By targeting different depths within the skin and interacting with melanin in varying ways, the dual-wavelength approach can effectively target hair follicles while minimizing the risk of damage to the surrounding skin. Our dual laser wavelength technology also decreases procedure time.
Burns and hyperpigmentation are known risks when using lasers unsuitable for specific skin types/tones. At Southern Skin & Wellness, our technology reduces the risks of adverse effects, such as burns or hyperpigmentation, with the luxury of customizable laser settings.
Our Laser Hair Reduction treatments have minimal downtime. Our laser technology allows patients to experience sun exposure after treatment, with the use of sunscreen, as our laser does not harm the skin and only treats the hair follicle.
Discomfort is minimized by utilizing cool air flow over the treatment area and can be further mitigated with topical anesthetics and/or analgesics if desired.
Laser hair reduction typically results in permanent hair reduction. Improvements may be seen after the first treatment, but due to the growth cycle of hair, patients must complete a series of treatments, 4-6 weeks apart, to achieve an optimal outcome. Depending on the patient, a touch-up session every year or two may be needed to maintain results.
The patient may experience mild redness immediately following treatment.
